nike bag project

I’m guessing we’ve all got an old sweatshirt, worn out, outgrown, languishing in the back of the wardrobe. Let’s recycle it and turn it into something useful, a beautiful crescent crossbody bag, using our Tilda bag pattern.

you will need:

  • Our Tilda Crossbody Bag pattern. Download it for free below.

  • Old branded sweatshirt.

  • 2oz nylon coated 0.5mtrs

  • 36cm zip

  • 2 D-rings

  • 1 tri-glide slide

  • 1.5 metres of 25mm wide webbing

Method:

Place the main pattern of the bag central on the logo. Our logo was large and on the chest, the pattern did not interfere with the neck so we could cut the front and back out at the same time. The side panels and tabs we cut out of the sleeves.

Cut 2 x main pieces, side panels and tabs out of nylon, this will make it easier to sew and give the bag structure.

Sew the nylon onto each piece wrong sides together with a 5mm seam, matching notches, be careful not to stretch the sweatshirting. If your zip is short we have an extra pattern piece for this and instructions on our tutorial but if it’s a 36cm zip it will fit.

Once you have done this, head over to our Tilda bag tutorial which you can find here.
